Thea Robertshaw’s paintings reflect her journey into the archetypal realm of dreams, memories, and visions. For the past 30 years Thea has explored her inner and outer realities. The images are surreal in nature. Form and color hover between worlds of the luminous and the theatrical in a style that bridges the fantastic and the lyrical. At times Thea ventures into the abstract and non-objective. Yet her palette stays the same — giving her more freedom with bold brush strokes — always recognizable as her personal style with the off-beat luminous colors of that other reality. Trusting color, shape and the movement of brush to take on their own character and message. |

My paintings express autobiographical information, musings about ancient cultures, tracings of dreams, and reflections on the unknown. I get great satisfaction from glowing, molten colors. The creative process for my multi-media work is done within an environment of abundance--stacked spools of wire, paper in bins, bags of street finds, electronic transistors, vinyl tubing, broken crayons--everything is fair game. I paint with no agenda, instrumentalist cause, or jaded cynicism. My paintings are my expressions of and reactions to the world around me and the conditions I've set for myself. |

Maria McCloud has been a local artist in the Long Beach area for most of her life. She is a self-taught artist, but attended formal art classes at Long Beach City College. Currently, Maria is a member of the co-op Eleven/Seven Art Gallery located in the East Village Arts District of downtown Long Beach. In regards to her artistic style, Maria says, "I have been drawing and painting since the age of two. My artworks vary in media from pencil drawings, to watercolors and oils. My chosen subject matter also varies greatly, from insect life to portraits; all of which concern the anatomy of such things-that is my focus which inspires most of my artwork." |

Mary L. Nicholson - Monné
I am happiest and most at peace when I'm painting and find it a great stress reducer. I get excited every time I see someone or something I want to paint. I will never have the time to paint everything I am inspired to paint. I still work full time, but plan to retire in two years and open my own art gallery in central Kansas. At that time, I plan to become involved in the Kansas art community. To help me raise funds for kidney disease education and prevention, visit kidneytrust.org. Then go to sweetgalleries.scent-team.com 25% proceeds go to The Kidney Trust. Any artwork I sell, 50% proceeds will go to The Kidney Trust. |

Seija Rohkea When I look at people, I see their creativity, their spirituality, the work that they do, and the sacrifices they make for others. I am drawn to the many ways we connect through art and the long history of those connections. Currently I am engaged in the process of creating vehicles to bring university art students and the Hellada Gallery together in new and exciting ways. The other innovative project I am working on, which is very important to me, is an exhibition, which reflects the trauma of war and the importance of civic engagement. I will be curating this exhibit dedicated to the art created by contemporary war veterans. I continue to explore the power of art as beauty, mirror, communicator, and healer––connecting people through visual language. |
